Up and Over in  Ballycastle

Up and over doors are more tradition style garage door and were one of the first to be used. Top open the door slides up and overhead on fixed rails. One major disadvantage of this type of this variety over a is that the swing of the doors falls outside the garage meaning that vehicles have to park a considerable number of feet away. Up and over doors tend to fall into two categories - canopy and retractable.

Canopy give the maximum drive through width when the door is open unlike the retractable which has lifting arms sitting down the side. However retractable doors do retract fully into the garage when open.

Sectional Doors in  Ballycastle

Sectional doors slide up and overhead and are made up of about four to six different panels. Unlike up and overs, sectional doors do not require space outside the garage to open. Steel, wood and vinyl are a popular choice of material.

In most cases sectional doors give the maximum drive through width and height. Sectional doors usually have a spring system that aid help the door operate smoothly this is especially useful on larger doors. Sectional doors are required by law to guard against finger entrapment between the panels. This means that they are a very safe option.

Roller garage doors in  Ballycastle

Roller garage doors are an extremely versatile selection. They roll vertically up and down and fit into a small space above the door. They can be fitted to unusual shaped openings unlike the two alternatives mentioned above. A roller garage door enables the driver to park within inches of it without any swing space needing to be accounted for.

This type is quite modern and available in a number of colours and finishes that its more traditional counterpart isn't. Roller garage doors in  Ballycastle are usually manufactured to your exact specifications so they always fit impeccably to your garage without any gaps around the edges.

UP & Over Doors  Ballycastle

Up and over garage doors are the most popular type of door available in  Ballycastle. They are very versatile and are available in a wide range of materials and designs. These include steel, fibreglass, Upvc and most types of timber.

There are two main types of up and over door. These are Canopy and Retractable. Their mechanisms and the way the panels open and close are different and both types have their uses for specific applications.

The canopy garage door is the simplest and most common type of mechanism. The name is derived from the way that the fully opened door panel protrudes about a third forward of the door opening to form a canopy.

The canopy door gives the maximum drive-through width when open and is the easiest to install. It is balanced and assisted by torsion springs positioned above the panel on the head of the fixing frame.

This mechanism is not normally used for automatically opening garage doors.

The retractable garage door is fast becoming the more popular type of mechanism. The name comes from the fact that the panel is retracted fully into the garage when it is open. The mechanism is suitable for electric operation.

The drive-through width on a retractable mechanism is reduced as the lifting arms sit in between the sub-frame when the door is opened.

The retractable mechanism has adjustable tension springs at the sides which can easily be increased in size and strength to take heavier panels.

Retractable door mechanisms are ideal for garage doors over 8 feet wide and heavier door panels such as hardwood. Double garage doors always use retractable gear.

General Sizing Information

The size of up and over door sizes are always defined by the internal fixing frame dimensions. This is the frame for used to fix the door panel itself and can be either a timber or steel box section.

The actual drive through width and height of any up and over garage door will never be the same as the ordering size. The door panel always hangs down in the opening and reduces the height depending on the thickness of the door panel itself and the width can be reduced as mentioned above when using retractable door gear. The optimum single garage door size is about 8'0" wide (2438mm) to allow easy access of a vehicle, the height depends on other factors such as building restrictions or taller 4 x 4 vehicles but always try for 7 feet as minimum.

1. The biggest advantage of a roller-door in  Ballycastle is space utilization.

1.1 When open, the door is tidily stored around a cylinder in the roof space immediately above the door's entrance. It does not project backwards into the garage, or slide around a side wall, and consequently it leaves any roof joists or areas close to side walls free to use for storage.

1.2 Additionally, unlike an up-and-over door, it does not project forward or require operating (opening) space in front of the entrance. This means that the door can be opened or closed when a car or any other obstruction is parked within inches of the door face.

2. Roller doors have an impact free movement. This enhances the life of the door and its mechanism and it also makes them safer to use than other styles of door.

3. The roller mechanism is easy to operate and it can be manually opened or closed with a minimum physical effort and without the need to stretch or reach up or down. This makes them ideal for older people, smaller people, or women. They are also quick to operate in inclement conditions.

4. When considering the different garage door operating mechanisms it is the roller variety that best lends itself to electric operation and remote control. No modifications are required and most packages come with an option for motorization as standard.

5. Roller garage doors look good in  Ballycastle. They are considered to be the Rolls Royce of outbuilding doors and, aside from their smooth operation and ease of use, they are always finished to the highest standard. They also benefit from a sectional construction that makes it easy for their appearance to simulate a natural timber, or highly detailed finish.

6. All but the very cheapest roller doors are insulated making them ideal for garages that are used as workshops or for integral garages where heat loss from a house in  Ballycastle needs to be avoided.
